RIDERS GEAR UP FOR GAUTENG’S PREMIER STAGE RACE

More than 200 mountain bikers have rallied up for a three-day stage race – right in the heart of Gauteng. The third edition of the Glacier Cradle Traverse takes place from 5-7 April at Avianto Lifestyle Estate, Muldersdrift.

With trails that are often described as Gauteng’s ‘best kept secret’, riders will be given a truly unique experience of the area surrounding the Cradle of Humankind. The exclusive routes extend into Muldersdrift and adjacent estates and conservancies, with breathtaking views and even the possibility of game encounters in store.

To encounter this natural beauty a mere half an hour from Johannesburg is only part of the reason that this event has become a favourite for local adventure-seekers. Another major draw card is the non-competitive atmosphere of the race – one that encourages riders to slow down and spend quality with loved ones.

“The important part for us is about the wider family. The Glacier events are not as competitive as the Epic or some of the bigger and longer stage races. It’s a friendly introduction to stage racing,” explained Johann de Wet, head of Business and Investment Solutions at Glacier by Sanlam.

With their renowned sense of hospitality, Glacier by Sanlam will once again welcome participants to an unforgettable race village. Not only will riders be treated to top-class accommodation and heart-warming meals, but daily entertainment will be provided for children too.

“In addition to the stage races that take place in and around the Cradle of Humankind in Muldersdrift, we also aim to offer all participants and visitors to the event a world-class experience.  We hope that you get to enjoy the rider chill zone, kiddies zones, water points with Biogen supplements, welcome gifts and scrumptious meals – to name just a few of the event experiences,” enthused de Wet.

To accommodate riders that don’t have the luxury of taking a day off work, a two-day and fun ride option has also been made available. For those who feel the need to put their mountain biking skills to the test, there will be category prizes up for grabs. This includes a Mafuta prize for the fastest male rider over 90 kilograms in weight, and age group prizes for the children taking part in the fun ride on Sunday.
