Race Village

JP van Zyl is very-well known in cycling circles. Cycling is in his blood, so if you want to talk tech – he is your go-to guy. As the official bike technical service provider, he offers a very affordable maintenance option for the duration of the race and all bookings and payments can be done directly with him.

Please contact him for booking at JP van Zylinfo@recycles.co.za

En-route

There will be two or three water points at each stage. These points will supply energy drinks, cold water, coke and snacks. Please refer to the route section for the exact distances between the water points.

Beverages

Alcoholic beverages and soft drinks will be on sale at the bar in the rider area. There will also be complimentary drinks in the chill zone.

Water

The race organisers will supply single source water for the water points and consumption during each stage. Alcoholic beverages and soft drinks will be sold at the venue.

Race Rules

Bulk Service

It is essential that riders start the race with a well-serviced and prepared bicycle. Take it to your local bike shop and explain your plans for the next three days – they will do what is necessary. We also advise that you carry brake pads, tubes, a master link and a replaceable dropout (remember this is unique to every bike) with you.

THE RACE VILLAGE

Cycle Tech Zone will supply a complete bicycle repair service at the race village. They also supply a maintenance plan for the duration of the event. It is highly recommended that you look at this option. Please see the website.

BIKE WASH

This is a complimentary service provided by the event. Please note that a bike has to be cleaned before any servicing is done.

SECURITY

The race village will offer a secure bike storage facility. Riders will have to sign in to deliver their bikes, as well as sign it out. Bikes have to be personally delivered and picked up from this location – no exceptions. Although there are no real safety concerns within the race village, riders must at all times (when their bikes are not in the secure storage facility) be alert and keep their equipment safe.

JP Van Zyl Bicycle Transport

Relax and enjoy the race – let us take care of your bicycle! Bicycle transport from Cape Town to the Glacier Cradle Traverse is available. We have a unique “roll in roll out” system and it is not necessary to take your bicycle apart. To book your bike, please contact: info@recycles.co.za

The Glacier Cradle Traverse’s maintenance operation will be handled by an official bike tech support manager, JP van Zyl from Cycle Tech Zone. All service providers will be on standby within the race village and surrounding areas. Official bookings will be taken by JP and his team.

The service runs just before stage three – in other words, it is good for 2 service events, after stage 1 and 2. If you prefer to do your own basic maintenance, the workshop will gladly take care of major technical issues. It will stock SRAM and Shimano components, from X-9 and XT upwards respectively.

The service process: You will be exhausted at the end of each day, and longing for a hot shower and a meal. In those moments, nothing is more frustrating than a bike that misbehaves so maintenance needs to be worked into your daily routine. Our service partners will service your bike as quickly as possible – just keep in mind that a proper job takes time.

The benefit of the maintenance plan is that you can simply bring us your bike after the stage and collect it again later – serviced and cleaned. All your details will be captured to avoid any hassle or fuss. We will check your bike thoroughly and if we find a problem, you will be notified via mobile phone with a quote.

If you will be handling your own maintenance, you can still bring your bike to the service admin desk and let us know what you want fixed. The race organisation offers a complimentary bike wash service, so before you bring it to the workshop please make sure it is clean.

We will inspect the problem and provide you with a cost estimate which you will have to sign before any work is started. All maintenance work can be paid for by credit card (Visa/MasterCard) or cash before the bike is released.

Please book here.
